SUMMARY:Coaching Much? Developing 'A' Grade Coaching and Teaching Skills
DESCRIPTION:This workshop challenges the idea that effective instruction is about fixing faults or polishing performance for a test. It looks instead at how instructors influence the way pupils think\, decide\, and behave behind the wheel\, during lessons and beyond the test. \nRather than focusing on what went wrong in a single moment\, the session explores why certain driving patterns repeat and how instructor language\, timing\, and role choice shape pupil behaviour. Coaching is presented as a skilled\, purposeful conversation that develops awareness\, responsibility\, and judgement\, not simply a series of questions or a hands-off approach. \nThe workshop also clarifies the difference between Pupil-led learning and client-centred learning\, and why they are not the same thing. It examines how instructors can remain active\, supportive\, and safety-focused while still keeping the pupil at the centre of the learning process. \nThis is not about abandoning instruction or control. It’s about choosing when to teach\, when to guide\, and when to coach\, with intention\, so learning transfers into real-world driving. \nWho this workshop is for: \nThis workshop is aimed at ADIs and PDIs who want to develop their coaching skills and move towards a genuinely client-centred approach\, without relying on pupil-led lessons. \nIt’s particularly relevant for: \n– instructors who want to coach more effectively without stepping back too far \n– PDIs who want to build strong coaching habits early and look confident and natural in assessments \n– instructors who feel stuck between “telling” and “letting them get on with it” \n– ADIs preparing for or maintaining high standards in Standards Checks \n– anyone who wants pupils to take responsibility without the lesson losing structure or safety \nThe session supports assessment performance\, but its focus is on building solid\, repeatable coaching habits that work in everyday lessons. \nFive takeaways: \n\nClient-centred does not mean pupil-led\nYou’ll explore how instructors can stay active and influential while still keeping responsibility and learning with the pupil.\nCoaching is deliberate\, not passive\nYou’ll see why effective coaching involves clear intent\, timing\, and structure\, not just open questions.\nRepeated faults usually point to deeper causes\n\nYou’ll consider why behaviours often come from beliefs\, emotions\, or pressure rather than a lack of skill. \nInstructor choices shape pupil independence \nYou’ll reflect on how when and how you step in affects confidence\, judgement\, and decision-making later on. \nStrong coaching shows up naturally in assessments \nYou’ll understand how a client-centred approach aligns with assessment criteria because it mirrors real learning\, not performance.

SUMMARY:How We Help People Fail Driving Tests
DESCRIPTION:“I teach safe driving for life—not just to pass a test.” I hear that often. But what I see when I sit in the back of ADI/PDI lessons tells a different story. \nIn this eye-opening workshop\, I’ll share how instructors—without even realising it—can sometimes be the reason a student doesn’t pass. Yes\, even those who “should’ve nailed it” or just “got too nervous.” \nDo these sound familiar:\n\nMaking mistakes on test day that they never made in lessons\nCrumbling under pressure despite being “ready”\nBlame falling on nerves or ‘stupid mistakes’\nWe practised that so many times but they still failed for it.\n\nBut what if some of that pressure was built during training? By you?\nJoin me as we uncover:\n✅ What’s in the instructors head can lead to test-day setbacks \n✅The gap between teaching to pass a test vs. safe driving for life \n✅Tips and techniques that you can start to implement in your very next session. \nWhether you’re working with learners or PDI’s\, this workshop could change the way you see your role. \nDiscover small differences you can make for big changes. \nLet’s rethink success—together.
