I qualified in 2003 and have been delivering Coaching Courses, One to One Coaching Training, and Fleet training since 2013 and Standards Check training since 2014.
ADI Clients approached me for their Coaching and Client Centred Learning CPD in the first week following the change to the Standards Check in April 2014 because they could see that I have been passionate about Coaching and CCL.
I have delivered the BTEC Levels 3 and 4 in Coaching for Driver Development. I thrive delivering courses both in the car and in the virtual or physical classroom setting. Most of my days are spent with Full Licence Holders, ADIs and PDIs.Currently I deliver all of the NDORS Courses such as Speed Awareness (NSAC, NMAC, SCD, and WDU) These are Behavioural Change Interventions, and are delivered in Class or via Zoom. There is also a practical session I deliver in the SCD Course.I also deliver the Fleet Training/Car lease program for Essex County Council.During Covid I organised the ‘Why Don’t You’ Zoom webinars to give us all something to think about during those long months.
My favourite was the ‘Blue Light Special’ where we had Blue Light Trainers from the Police, Fire and Ambulance Services talking about what they need from us as the Trainers of New Drivers.
Having contracted the CPD bug, I have completed multiple courses with people including:
Lisa Dorn – Director of the Driving Research Group at Cranfield University.
Ian Edwards – Road Safety Consultant. Designer of Road Safety GB’s courses
UKROeD/NDORS – Multiple CPD Courses.
Fiona Fylan – Road safety Consultant and behavioural change specialist with NDORS/UKROeD
Behavioural change in Driver Education is what I am most passionate about. Just because we tell ‘them’, does not mean it sticks!!
We, as ADIs and PDIs, are the first line of defence when it comes to helping our newest drivers stay safe, once they have passed their Test. Gaining the skills to self-evaluate near misses, and having an action plan in place for the stresses and pressures of life are not addressed enough during the learning process. 1 in 5 new drivers are involved in a serious crash in the first 250 miles of driving.
Driving safely for the rest of their lives is something we can merely plant the seeds for, and address during training sessions.Driving for life has multiple meanings!Together we can be better at this!
