About SteveMy passion is for training people how to train others. I honed my teaching skills while
working for national training providers for more than 15 years. During that time, I realised
people learnt more effectively in smaller groups and teaching them in a way that made
sense to them. This was the main reason why I, along with Dennis Hylton, set up Equip
Training. Our aim has always been to provide inclusive, supportive and easily accessible
training courses by sharing good quality resources and making the best use of traditional
and virtual classrooms.Read more…
I first got the bug for teaching in a wet and windy school playground while training
people to ride motorcycles. In those days it was voluntary. It was Pre- Compulsory Basic
Training (CPT). Upon the encouragement of a friend of mine, I trained and qualified as
an Approved Driving Instructor before training new and existing instructors.
In the early noughties, I had an opportunity to learn French in France, which I thought
made sense. It’s a language I have always tried to improve but haven’t always had the
time. While studying in Normandy, I thought to myself, what a great way to earn a
living… teaching people to speak my own language. Once I returned home, I enrolled on
a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and went on to achieve
my Certificate of Education (Cert Ed) in 2003 before gaining my assessing and internal
verifying qualifications.
These qualifications have given me the opportunity to develop my skills and improve my
knowledge of how people learn, and I have enjoyed working in both the FE and private
sector. It means I have gained a wealth of experience to enable me to pass on what I
have learnt to those looking to develop their own skills within adult education.
Nowadays, our courses can be taught in-class or online or a combination of both: a far
cry from the wet and windy playgrounds of the early 80s!
